Links below have been updated accordingly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ActionTiles is a great interface for managing and controlling SmartThings. Having previously created a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190706130531\/https:\/\/jggdev.com\/2017\/05\/23\/calendar-image-for-actiontiles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">webpage that delivered a calendar image f<\/a>or use&nbsp;in ActionTiles I thought I\u2019d have a go at creating some more \u2018dynamic\u2019 images. &nbsp;Below are details for a News Feed&nbsp;image.&nbsp; The dynamic image&nbsp;can be found at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190706130531\/https:\/\/mtg.actiontiles.com\/news.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/mtg.actiontiles.com\/news.php<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although it has a php extension the page returns a PNG image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parameters \/ Customizing the look<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users can pass formatting options as URL parameters to override the default format. &nbsp;For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mtg.actiontiles.com\/news.php?titleColor=00FF00&amp;bodyColor=ffffff&amp;backgroundColor=000000&amp;src=bbcsoccer\">https:\/\/mtg.actiontiles.com\/news.php?titleColor=00FF00&amp;bodyColor=ffffff&amp;backgroundColor=000000&amp;src=bbcsoccer<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colors are entered as&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190706130531\/http:\/\/www.color-hex.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hex values<\/a>&nbsp;(without the # symbol \u2013 using a # symbol will cause formatting requests to be ignored). The above sets the background color to black, the body color (the headlines) to white&nbsp;and the title (feed name) color to green. &nbsp;The full list of parameters is shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><em>backgroundColor<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 the background color of the image.<\/li><li><em>titleColor<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 the color of the title containing the feed&nbsp;name.<\/li><li><em>bodyColor<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 the color of the news feed headlines.<\/li><li><em>static<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 (valid values \u2013 true or false) by default the image will \u2018page\u2019 through an extended forecast. &nbsp;If you wish to have the image fix on the first \u2018page\u2019 of the forecast use static=true. False is default.<\/li><li>speed \u2013 the number of seconds to display each page. &nbsp;Will only work if static is not set to true.<\/li><li><em>src&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;<\/em>the news source to display. &nbsp;Current valid values are:<ul><li>CNN<\/li><li>FOX (Fox News)<\/li><li>NYT (New York Times)<\/li><li>RTRS (Reuters News)<\/li><li>BBCNEWS (BBC News)<\/li><li>ESPN (ESPN Top News)<\/li><li>ESPNNFL (ESPN NFL News)<\/li><li>ESPNNBA (ESPN NBA News)<\/li><li>ESPNMLB (ESPN MLB News)<\/li><li>ESPNNHL (ESPN NHL News)<\/li><li>BBCSPORT (BBC Sports News)<\/li><li>BBCSOCCER (BBC UK Soccer News)<\/li><li>Your custom&nbsp;source using the steps below<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Using a Custom Feeds Source<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This feature is still in development and is slightly clunky but should work for most RSS feeds. &nbsp;Get the URL for the feed you want to use and visit&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190706130531\/https:\/\/www.base64encode.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.base64encode.org\/<\/a>&nbsp; Then enter the RSS Feed URL in the top box and hit Encode. &nbsp;You\u2019ll get a string of characters in the bottom box that you can copy and use as the src variable in your call to this news page. &nbsp;For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190706130531im_\/https:\/\/jggdev.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/screenshot-20172505-090817-1024x878.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Used in the call to the news image creator you would have a URL like:&nbsp;https:\/\/jggdev.com\/atiles\/news.php?titleColor=00FF00&amp;bodyColor=ffffff&amp;backgroundColor=000000&amp;src=aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5mZWVkYnVybmVyLmNvbS9UZWNoQ3J1bmNoLw==<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Adding To ActionTiles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have determined the exact formatting that you wish to use, copy the URL including parameters and then:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Go to&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190706130531\/https:\/\/app.actiontiles.com\/media#panels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/app.actiontiles.com\/media#panels<\/a>&nbsp;(you must have an account and be logged in to view this page)<\/li><li>Click on the Plus symbol in the bottom-right-hand corner of the screen to add new media.<\/li><li>Select \u2018This Media is a still image or GIF\u2019<\/li><li>Enter the URL in the URL field.<\/li><li>Enter a refresh rate, if desired. &nbsp;We recommend every hour which would be a value of 3600 seconds. &nbsp;We strongly request that you don\u2019t refresh more regularly than every 900 seconds.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These image generators are now available directly from the ActionTiles cloud.
